Weekly CVE digest
One email a week with newly published vulnerabilities worth knowing about. No account needed.
This digest covers new vulnerabilities in general, not your servers. If you want to know which of them actually run in your infrastructure, that is what Secvalis does: it scans your machines and reports only what concerns them.
Out-of-bounds read in Microsoft Office Word allows an unauthorized attacker to disclose information over a network.
ZoneMinder versions 1.34.0 through 1.36.38 mishandles failed token authentication in web/includes/auth.php. validateToken() returns false for a malformed or invalidly signed token, but the caller assigns that value to the global $user variable; because web/index.php tests isset($user), boolean false is treated as a present user and the normal login redirect is skipped.
The WP EasyPay WordPress plugin in versions up to and including 4.5.4 contains a missing authorization vulnerability that allows exploitation of incorrectly configured access control security levels. An unauthenticated user can perform actions they should not be permitted to do.
AliasVault is a privacy-first password manager with built-in email aliasing. Prior to 0.30.3, the server API favicon extractor validates a user-supplied hostname with a first DNS lookup but allows the HTTP client to perform a second DNS lookup when connecting. An authenticated low-privileged user operating an attacker-controlled authoritative DNS server can return a public address during validation and a private address during connection, causing a publicly reachable self-hosted server to issue HTTP or HTTPS requests to internal hosts.
MessagePack for C# is a MessagePack serializer for C#. Prior to 2.5.303 and 3.1.9, deserializing attacker-controlled MessagePack data as System.Object through PrimitiveObjectFormatter can cause excessive memory allocation. The formatter allocates an object[] from each declared array length before the configured object-graph depth limit rejects the input, while nested array headers can reuse the same trailing unread bytes to satisfy per-header length validation.
undici is an HTTP client library for Node.js. In versions 7.15.0 through 7.30.0 and 8.0.0 through 8.12.1, its decompress interceptor forwards decompressed response data to the downstream handler from zlib stream event callbacks without catching exceptions those callbacks may throw. When a downstream handler throws asynchronously from a zlib callback, it escapes as an uncaught exception that terminates the Node.js process. A malicious HTTP server can send a small compressed body that decompresses to more than the configured limit, crashing the client.
ammonia is a Rust library for repairing and securing untrusted HTML. Prior to 3.3.2, 4.0.2, and 4.1.3, applications that explicitly allow the math tag, annotation-xml, and at least one raw-text HTML element while disallowing the encoding attribute can permit mutation cross-site scripting. ammonia does not correctly implement annotation-xml's encoding-dependent MathML integration-point behavior after attribute filtering removes encoding, so the sanitizer validates a descendant under one namespace interpretation while the browser reparses the output under another.
Python Social Auth is a social authentication/registration mechanism. Prior to 5.0.2, the LINE backend exchanges an authorization code without validating the returned OAuth state. An attacker can begin authorization for an attacker-controlled LINE account and induce a victim to visit the resulting callback URL, causing the application to log the victim into the attacker's account. When account linking is enabled, the same missing validation can link the attacker's LINE identity to the victim's existing account and create a persistent unauthorized login path.
Scoold is a Q&A and knowledge sharing platform for teams. Prior to 1.69.1, checkApiAuth() in ScooldUtils.java accepts a JWT signed with app_secret_key or para_secret_key for /api/config and /api/stats without requiring a registered API-key jti, and maps the request to the hardcoded administrative API_USER. The special endpoint checks run even when scoold.api_enabled is false. An attacker who obtains either signing secret can forge a token that reads sensitive configuration and server logs and reaches privileged configuration functionality.
GYM One is open-source gym management software. Prior to 1.4.1, admin/users/index.php concatenates the search_name and search_email GET parameters into both the user-list query and the COUNT query used for pagination without prepared statements. An authenticated administrator can inject SQL through either search field to read data from arbitrary tables, including user information and password hashes. Depending on database permissions, the same injection may also permit filesystem writes.
Scoold is a Q&A and knowledge sharing platform for teams. Prior to 1.69.1, apiCorsConfiguration() in ScooldServer.java combines addAllowedOriginPattern("*") with setAllowCredentials(true), causing Spring to reflect any requesting origin while allowing cookies or session tokens. A malicious website visited by a logged-in Scoold user can therefore issue authenticated API requests, read user data, questions, and configuration, and trigger state-changing operations on the user's behalf.
Scoold is a Q&A and knowledge sharing platform for teams. Prior to 1.69.1, getBackToUrl() in HttpUtils.java validates the backto and returnto parameters with Strings.CI.startsWith against the configured server URL. An attacker can supply an absolute URL whose hostname begins with the legitimate hostname, causing URI.resolve() to retain the attacker URL and the prefix check to accept it. A victim who follows the crafted sign-in link can be redirected to an attacker-controlled domain after authentication, enabling phishing and possible credential or token theft.
OpenNMS Meridian and Horizon XML parsing lacked an effective limit on entity expansion, allowing server memory exhaustion. An authenticated user with provisioning access can supply a document with a DOCTYPE and internal entities via requisition or foreign-source import, causing a denial of service.
SimplePie through 1.9.0 contains a local file read vulnerability that allows malicious feed servers to read server files by supplying file:// URLs in redirects or autodiscovery links. Attackers can return a Location header or feed link pointing to a file:// path, causing file_get_contents() to read files accessible to the web server process.
Netgate pfSense CE 2.7.1 through 2.9.0 contains a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability in firewall_rules.php that allows remote attackers to inject script via the unencoded if parameter. When the non-default Require Firewall Interface option is enabled, attackers can lure users with firewall rules privileges into opening a crafted GET link to execute script in the WebGUI with their privileges.
Netgate pfSense CE 2.3.0 through 2.9.0 contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability that allows authenticated users with Firewall: Rules or NAT: Port Forward privileges to inject scripts via the separator color field. Attackers can submit a crafted separator[] color value that display_separator() renders unencoded into class attributes, executing in administrators' browsers to perform WebGUI actions with their privileges.
Netgate pfSense CE through 2.9.0 contains a local file read vulnerability that allows users with the Dynamic DNS client privilege to read files as root by setting a file:// custom Update URL in services_dyndns_edit.php. Attackers can set a non-matching Result Match string so _checkStatus() logs file contents such as /conf/config.xml or /etc/master.passwd to the system log.
Netgate pfSense CE from 2.7.1 through 2.9.0 contains a CRLF injection vulnerability in services_unbound_advanced.php that allows authenticated users with DNS Resolver: Advanced privilege to inject Unbound directives. Attackers can embed CR/LF characters in the unvalidated sock_queue_timeout parameter, which is written raw into unbound.conf, to override local records and forwarding for all clients.
Netgate pfSense CE through 2.9.0 contains a CRLF injection vulnerability in services_unbound_acls.php that allows authenticated users with the DNS Resolver: Access Lists privilege to inject Unbound configuration directives. Attackers can embed CR/LF characters in the aclname or aclaction fields written to access_lists.conf to add local-data, local-zone, or forward-zone directives and control DNS answers served to LAN clients.
Netgate pfSense CE 2.5.0 through 2.9.0 contains an OS command injection vulnerability in openvpn.learn-address.sh that allows authenticated VPN clients to execute commands as the unbound user. Attackers can embed shell metacharacters in the certificate common name or username, which is interpolated unquoted into su -c strings, when DNS Resolver client registration is enabled.
