Summary

braces through 3.0.3 contains a stack overflow vulnerability in recursive AST walkers that lack depth guards. An attacker can supply deeply nested brace patterns under the character limit to exhaust the call stack and terminate the Node.js process with an uncaught RangeError.

Risk Assessment

A Node.js application processing untrusted input with braces can be crashed by an attacker, causing denial of service.

Recommendation

Upgrade the braces library to a version newer than 3.0.3 if available, and validate and limit input nesting depth before passing it to the parser.
