Summary

Uber Kraken through 0.1.29 fails to validate the tag parameter in the /tags/{tag} endpoint, allowing unauthenticated attackers to traverse outside the configured storage root. Attackers can use percent-encoded parent-directory segments in the tag parameter to read arbitrary files accessible to the testfs backend process.

Risk Assessment

The vulnerability allows unauthenticated parties to read arbitrary files from the system, potentially leading to leakage of sensitive data, configuration, and credentials. This represents a serious confidentiality breach.

Recommendation

Upgrade Uber Kraken to a version newer than 0.1.29 and implement tag parameter validation that restricts paths to the configured storage root.
