Summary

A flaw was found in `sssd-kcm` that allows a local denial of service. A local user or process able to connect to the `sssd-kcm` UNIX socket can send a request with a large length header and then stall the connection, causing significant memory preallocation. This leads to memory exhaustion in the `sssd-kcm` responder, resulting in a DoS.

Risk Assessment

The risk is the ability to trigger a local denial of service, potentially disrupting Kerberos credential management services in the organization. The attacker does not need administrator privileges, only access to the UNIX socket.

Recommendation

Apply vendor-provided patches for the `sssd` package immediately. As a temporary measure, restrict access to the `sssd-kcm` UNIX socket to trusted processes and users only.

Original NVD description (English source)

A flaw was found in `sssd-kcm`. A local user or process able to connect to the `sssd-kcm` UNIX socket can exploit this vulnerability. By sending a large request length header and then stalling the connection, an attacker can cause the system to preallocate significant memory. This leads to memory exhaustion within the `sssd-kcm` responder, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) for affected deployments.
