Summary

A vulnerability was found in TRENDnet TEW-821DAP up to 1.12B01 in the platform_do_upgrade_cameo_dev function of cameo_dev.sh within the Firmware Update Handler. Manipulation leads to insufficient verification of data authenticity. The attack is remotely possible but highly complex and difficult to exploit.

Risk Assessment

The vulnerability affects a product that has been EOL for 8 years, so organizations still using this device are exposed without vendor support. Insufficient authenticity verification may allow uploading unauthorized firmware.

Recommendation

Replace the TRENDnet TEW-821DAP with a newer, supported model since the vendor will not provide fixes. Until replacement, restrict access to the management and firmware update interface.
