HighCVSS 8.8Exploitation Probability (EPSS)
Low risk37th percentile - higher than 37% of all known CVEs
Summary
A buffer overflow vulnerability has been detected in TRENDnet TEW-821DAP version 1.12B01 in the sub_41EC14 function of the /goform/tools_nslookup file within the ssi component. An attacker can remotely exploit this by manipulating the nslookup_target argument. The vendor states the device is End-of-Life (EOL) and will not issue patches.
Risk Assessment
The risk involves potential remote code execution or device crash, leading to network disruption or device compromise. Since the product is no longer supported, organizations using it face an unpatched threat.
Recommendation
Immediately retire TRENDnet TEW-821DAP devices and replace them with supported models. If replacement is not possible, restrict device access to trusted networks only and apply additional network security measures.
