Summary

A vulnerability in Mattermost allows an authenticated attacker to perform a Denial of Service (DoS) attack on all users in a channel. The issue stems from missing validation of the length and content of message attachment field values, causing catastrophic backtracking in the client-side Markdown parser.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can send a specially crafted message that causes the Mattermost client to hang or slow down significantly for all users in the channel, disrupting their normal operations.

Recommendation

Immediately upgrade Mattermost to version 11.7.3, 11.6.5, 10.11.20 or later, as recommended by the vendor (MMSA-2026-00658).
