Summary

GIMP contains an integer overflow in the file-pvr plug-in when calculating memory buffer sizes for image dimensions. Opening or previewing a specially crafted PowerVR (.pvr) file can trigger a heap-based buffer overflow, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution or a Denial of Service (DoS) via an application crash.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can trick a user into opening a malicious .pvr file, potentially resulting in arbitrary code execution in the user's context or application crash. The risk covers confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Recommendation

Update GIMP to a version containing the fix. Avoid opening .pvr files from untrusted sources until the update is applied.
