Summary

Mattermost versions 11.9.x <= 11.9.1, 11.8.x <= 11.8.5, 11.7.x <= 11.7.10, 11.10.x <= 11.10.1 fail to sanitize authentication tokens before writing them to server log entries. An attacker with access to server logs can obtain valid session tokens or OAuth access tokens and impersonate authenticated users.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can hijack user sessions or gain access to OAuth accounts, leading to unauthorized access to data and systems. The risk is high if logs are accessible to third parties or stored insecurely.

Recommendation

Update Mattermost to the latest version that fixes this vulnerability. Restrict access to server logs and consider rotating session and OAuth tokens.
