Summary

AFFLIB through 3.7.22 contains a heap out-of-bounds write in af_get_page() that allows attackers to corrupt heap memory by supplying crafted AFF images with mismatched page and sector sizes. This causes the sector zero-fill loop to write past the buffer and crash forensic tools.

Risk Assessment

This can lead to memory corruption and crashes of forensic analysis tools, and potentially code execution in the context of the process handling a malicious image.

Recommendation

Update AFFLIB to a version later than 3.7.22 or apply the vendor patch; avoid processing untrusted AFF images.
