CVE-2026-104041

MediumCVSS 5.5
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

A flaw was found in SSSD's NSS responder negative cache. An unprivileged local user can repeatedly request lookups for nonexistent entries, causing the cache to grow without bound because it does not limit the total number of stored entries.

Risk Assessment

A local attacker can cause memory exhaustion, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) as the NSS responder becomes unresponsive or terminates.

Recommendation

Update SSSD to a version with the fix limiting the negative cache size in the NSS responder. Monitor memory usage of SSSD processes.

Original NVD description (English source)

A flaw was found in SSSD. An unprivileged local user can repeatedly request lookups for nonexistent entries through the Name Service Switch (NSS) responder. Because the negative cache does not limit the total number of stored entries and only removes expired records when an existing key is rechecked, the cache can grow without bound. This behavior can lead to memory exhaustion, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) as the responder becomes unresponsive or terminates.
