Summary

A cleartext transmission of sensitive information vulnerability exists in curl <v7.88.0 that could cause HSTS functionality to fail when multiple URLs are requested serially. The HSTS mechanism is ignored by subsequent transfers on the same command line because the state is not properly carried on.

Risk Assessment

Sensitive information may be transmitted over insecure cleartext HTTP instead of HTTPS, exposing it to interception by an attacker. The risk affects scripts and applications making multiple requests in a single curl session.

Recommendation

Update curl to version 7.88.0 or later. Until patched, avoid relying on HSTS when making multiple sequential requests on the same command line.

Original NVD description (English source)

A cleartext transmission of sensitive information vulnerability exists in curl <v7.88.0 that could cause HSTS functionality fail when multiple URLs are requested serially. Using its HSTS support, curl can be instructed to use HTTPS instead of usingan insecure clear-text HTTP step even when HTTP is provided in the URL. ThisHSTS mechanism would however surprisingly be ignored by subsequent transferswhen done on the same command line because the state would not be properlycarried on.
