Summary

The OpenSSL RSA key generation algorithm is vulnerable to a cache timing side channel attack. An attacker with sufficient access to mount cache timing attacks during the RSA key generation process could recover the private key. Affected versions are 1.1.0-1.1.0h and 1.0.2b-1.0.2o.

Risk Assessment

Recovery of the RSA private key by an attacker can break confidentiality of communications, enable impersonation of services and compromise data protected by that key.

Recommendation

Update OpenSSL to version 1.1.0i-dev or 1.0.2p-dev (or newer), and consider regenerating keys if they were generated on an affected version.
