Summary

The OpenSSL DSA signature algorithm has been shown to be vulnerable to a timing side channel attack. An attacker could use variations in the signing algorithm to recover the private key. Fixed in OpenSSL 1.1.1a, 1.1.0j, and 1.0.2q.

Risk Assessment

An attacker could recover the DSA private key, leading to compromise of digital signatures and authentication. Risk affects applications using DSA.

Recommendation

Upgrade OpenSSL to version 1.1.1a, 1.1.0j, or 1.0.2q (or later). Consider using alternative signature algorithms such as ECDSA.
