Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Exploitation Probability (EPSS)

Very high risk
48.83%

99th percentile - higher than 99% of all known CVEs

Summary

During key agreement in a TLS handshake using a DH(E) based ciphersuite, a malicious server can send a very large prime value to the client. This causes the client to spend an unreasonably long period of time generating a key for this prime, resulting in a hang until the client has finished.

Risk Assessment

This could be exploited in a Denial of Service attack, blocking the client for an extended period and preventing normal communication.

Recommendation

Upgrade OpenSSL to version 1.1.0i-dev (for the 1.1.0 branch) or 1.0.2p-dev (for the 1.0.2 branch).
