CVE-2018-0159

HighCVSS 7.5KEV
Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

A vulnerability in the IKEv1 implementation of Cisco IOS and IOS XE Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause an affected device to reload, resulting in a denial of service (DoS). It is due to improper validation of specific IKEv1 packets. Sending crafted IKEv1 packets during IKE negotiation can cause a device reload.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can remotely trigger a reload of a Cisco device, disrupting VPN and other IKEv1-dependent services. This can lead to unavailability of critical connections and communication disruptions.

Recommendation

Upgrade Cisco IOS/IOS XE software to a version containing the fix for Cisco Bug ID CSCuj73916. Consider restricting IKEv1 access from untrusted networks and monitoring for unusual IKE traffic.
