CVE-2026-99221

Unknown
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

In the Linux kernel, trusted_tpm_unseal() proceeded to call pcrlock() after a TPM unseal failure; if pcrlock() succeeded, its return value overwrote the unseal error, causing key instantiation to succeed despite the failure.

Risk Assessment

The flaw may allow a trusted key to be created despite a failed TPM verification, weakening the security guarantees of TPM-backed keys. This can affect the integrity of key protection mechanisms.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version with the fix that returns immediately on TPM unseal failure. Verify whether trusted keys are used in your environment.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: keys/trusted_keys: return immediately after TPM unseal failure trusted_tpm_unseal() proceeds to pcrlock() when the TPM unseal operation fails. If pcrlock() succeeds, its return value overwrites the unseal error, causing key instantiation to succeed. Return immediately when unseal fails to preserve the original error.
