Summary

In the Linux kernel's tracing module, predicate_parse() uses the first operator stack entry before processing any opening parentheses. A push increments top before writing, and the existing check still permits the write when top already points to the last allocated entry, potentially accessing beyond the operator stack.

Risk Assessment

An out-of-bounds access on the operator stack in the kernel can lead to memory corruption, system instability, or privilege escalation.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version with the fix that rejects the push when top reaches the last allocated entry. Restrict tracing interfaces.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tracing: Check operator stack capacity before pushing predicate_parse() uses the first operator stack entry before processing any opening parentheses. A push then increments top before writing. The existing check still permits that write when top already points to the last allocated entry, which can access beyond the operator stack. Reject the push when top reaches the last allocated entry.
