Summary

In the Linux kernel, the arm_scmi BASE_ERROR_EVENT notification parser used the report count encoded in error_status without checking whether the received payload contained all reported entries. Truncated payloads could therefore be copied past the end of the buffer. The fix rejects truncated payloads before copying the report array.

Risk Assessment

A truncated BASE_ERROR_EVENT payload can cause an out-of-bounds read in the kernel. This may lead to a system crash or potential data corruption.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version with the BASE_ERROR_EVENT payload size validation fix in arm_scmi. Medium priority — affects systems using SCMI.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: firmware: arm_scmi: Validate BASE_ERROR_EVENT payload size BASE_ERROR_EVENT carries a variable number of message reports, with the count encoded in error_status. The notification parser used that count without checking whether the received payload contained all reported entries. Reject truncated payloads before copying the report array.
