Summary

In the Linux kernel, the wifi libertas driver's lbs_hard_start_xmit() in monitor mode cast skb->data to a radiotap TX header, skipped that header, and copied the 802.11 destination address from offset 4 without checking the minimum frame length. The generic length check only rejected zero-length and oversized skbs, so a short monitor frame could be read past the end of the skb data. The fix requires enough bytes for the radiotap TX header and the destination address field.

Risk Assessment

A short monitor-mode frame can cause an out-of-bounds read in the kernel. This may lead to a system crash or potential data exposure.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version with the fix rejecting undersized monitor TX frames in libertas. Medium priority — affects systems with libertas Wi-Fi cards.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: libertas: reject short monitor TX frames In monitor mode, lbs_hard_start_xmit() casts skb->data to a radiotap TX header, skips that header, and then copies the 802.11 destination address from offset 4 in the remaining frame. The generic length check only rejects zero-length and oversized skbs, so a short monitor frame can be read past the end of the skb data. Require enough bytes for the radiotap TX header and the destination address field before using the monitor-mode header layout.
