Summary

In the Linux kernel, the net: dsa: mt7530 driver's mt7530_remove() unconditionally disables the core and io regulators, even though they are only requested for the ID_MT7530 chip. On MT7621 and MT7531 the pointers remain NULL, so rmmod or a sysfs unbind calls regulator_disable() on NULL.

Risk Assessment

The vulnerability leads to a NULL dereference and kernel panic during module removal or device unbind. It can be exploited to cause denial of service (DoS) by a user with privileges to manage modules.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix for the mt7530 driver. Until then, avoid removing the module or unbinding MT7621/MT7531 devices via sysfs.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: dsa: mt7530: fix NULL dereference on unbind of MT7531 and MT7621 The core and io supplies are only requested for ID_MT7530: both the devm_regulator_get() in probe and the regulator_enable() in mt7530_setup() are guarded by the switch id, but mt7530_remove() disables them unconditionally. On an MT7621 or an MT7531 both pointers are still NULL from devm_kzalloc(), so rmmod or a sysfs unbind calls regulator_disable() on NULL.
