Summary

In the Linux kernel, the nouveau_connector_detect() function in the drm/nouveau driver, if nvif_outp_edid_get() fails, returns early without dropping the runtime PM reference taken at the start of the function, keeping the device powered on.

Risk Assessment

The runtime PM reference leak can lead to excessive power consumption and prevent the device from entering sleep until the next successful detect.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that balances the runtime PM reference on the error path.
