Summary

In the Linux kernel wifi virt_wifi driver, an skb leak was fixed when the simulated link is disconnected. virt_wifi_start_xmit() returned NET_XMIT_DROP without freeing the skb, causing memory leak for every packet sent while disconnected.

Risk Assessment

Memory leak can lead to system resource exhaustion, especially with heavy network traffic on virtual interfaces.

Recommendation

Install the Linux kernel patch that frees the skb before returning drop status. Monitor memory usage on systems using virt_wifi.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: virt_wifi: free skb when disconnected When the simulated link is disconnected, virt_wifi_start_xmit() returns NET_XMIT_DROP without freeing the skb. dev_hard_start_xmit() treats this return value as consumed, so every packet sent while disconnected leaks its skb. Free the skb before returning the drop status.
