Summary

In the Linux kernel, the netfilter flowtable module has an issue with premature release of conntrack reference, potentially leading to use of an invalid object. The fix holds the reference until flow release after RCU grace period and adds rcu_barrier() on module exit.

Risk Assessment

Use of an invalid conntrack object may lead to errors in packet processing, potentially enabling attacks or system crashes.

Recommendation

It is recommended to update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix to ensure proper flowtable operation.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: flowtable: hold reference on ct until flow is released nf_ct_put() releases the ct->ext area inmediately, the rcu typesafe semantics also allow to refer to the wrong conntrack from the flowtable datapath. Hold reference on ct until flow is released after rcu grace period. Add rcu_barrier() on module exit path, to ensure pending flow entries are release before module goes away.
