Exploitation Probability (EPSS)

Low risk
0.24%

13th percentile - higher than 13% of all known CVEs

Summary

The Business Essentials for Contact Form 7 plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'gateway' Form Field in all versions up to, and including, 1.2.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires the Payments module to be enabled and a form to be configured to accept both PayPal and Stripe as payment gateways.

Risk Assessment

An unauthenticated attacker can inject malicious scripts that execute in visitors' browsers, potentially leading to session or data theft. The risk applies to sites with the Payments module enabled and a suitably configured form.

Recommendation

Update the Business Essentials for Contact Form 7 plugin to a version later than 1.2.1. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the Payments module or changing the form configuration.
