Summary

A cleartext storage of sensitive information vulnerability in WatchGuard Endpoint Security's Full Disk Encryption feature for macOS allows a local, unprivileged user or process to obtain a managed computer's FileVault Personal Recovery Key by reading a persistently written diagnostic log file left readable by all local users.

Risk Assessment

Disclosure of the FileVault recovery key can allow decryption of the computer's disk and access to its data. This poses a serious confidentiality risk for managed macOS devices.

Recommendation

Update WatchGuard Endpoint Security to a version that does not write the recovery key to readable logs, and restrict permissions on log files. Review existing diagnostic logs and remove sensitive data from them.
