Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Exploitation Probability (EPSS)

Low risk
0.24%

14th percentile - higher than 14% of all known CVEs

Summary

The No External Links plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Log URL via /goto/{base64} Redirect in all versions up to, and including, 5.2.0 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This is only exploitable when the administrator has enabled the 'Link Encoding: Base64' option in the plugin settings.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can execute arbitrary JavaScript in the victim's browser, potentially leading to session theft, redirections, or other actions within the site context. The risk is particularly high if the plugin is used with the Base64 encoding option enabled.

Recommendation

Update the No External Links plugin to a version newer than 5.2.0 if available, or disable the 'Link Encoding: Base64' option until a fix is released. Additionally, consider implementing WAF rules to filter suspicious requests to /goto/.
