Summary

The CoCart WordPress plugin before 4.9.7 does not scope its REST API authentication filter to its own endpoints, disabling WordPress core's REST nonce protection for every route. This allows an attacker to perform a cross-site request forgery attack that creates a new administrator account using a logged-in administrator's session.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can exploit CSRF to create an administrator account, taking full control of the site. This only requires tricking a logged-in administrator into visiting a malicious page.

Recommendation

Upgrade the CoCart plugin to version 4.9.7 or later. Consider temporarily disabling the plugin until patched.
