CVE-2026-92454

MediumCVSS 6.1
Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

The GUIX software JPEG decoder reads four kinds of marker segments without checking that each is long enough to hold what it reads. A truncated segment causes a read past the caller's image buffer, and a zero chroma sampling factor makes the block decode loop non-terminating.

Risk Assessment

Processing a malicious JPEG image may cause an out-of-bounds read or decoder hang, posing a risk to confidentiality and availability.

Recommendation

Upgrade GUIX to a version containing the JPEG decoder fix and avoid processing untrusted images until updated.

Original NVD description (English source)

The GUIX software JPEG decoder reads four kinds of marker segment without checking that each is long enough to hold what it reads. A truncated segment is therefore read past the end of the caller's image buffer. Separately, a zero chroma sampling factor makes the block decode loop non-terminating. Both reproduce in the default configuration, in which `GX_SOFTWARE_DECODER_SUPPORT` is enabled.
