Summary

Polyaxon through 2.16.4 renders operation specification fields with an unsandboxed Jinja2 environment during server-side run preparation, allowing authenticated users to execute arbitrary code. Attackers can submit runs with Jinja2 payloads in queue, namespace, conditions, presets, or dependencies fields to execute OS commands in the scheduler process context.

Risk Assessment

An authenticated attacker can execute arbitrary code in the scheduler context, gaining access to database credentials and service tokens, potentially leading to full environment compromise.

Recommendation

Update Polyaxon to a version newer than 2.16.4; until then, restrict platform access to trusted users only and consider disabling or limiting Jinja2 rendering in specification fields.
