CVE-2026-91157
HighCVSS 7.5Summary
Discourse is an open-source discussion platform. Prior to 2026.9.0, 2026.8.1, 2026.7.3, and 2026.1.9, sites with secure uploads enabled did not reconcile existing upload security metadata when a previously public category became read-restricted or when category permissions changed during a bulk import. Media and attachments uploaded while the category was public retained a public accessibility flag and remained reachable by anonymous users through their short upload URLs, including uploads associated with deleted topics. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.9.0, 2026.8.1, 2026.7.3, and 2026.1.9.
Risk Assessment
Anonymous users can access media and attachments that should be restricted, compromising data confidentiality.
Recommendation
Update Discourse to version 2026.9.0, 2026.8.1, 2026.7.3, or 2026.1.9. After changing category permissions, verify that upload security metadata is correctly updated.

Discourse is an open-source discussion platform. Prior to 2026.9.0, 2026.8.1, 2026.7.3, and 2026.1.9, oEmbed processing treated an entire attacker-controlled HTML fragment as trusted when the fragment contained an iframe whose source matched the configured allowlist. A user with posting permission who controlled a public webpage and its oEmbed response could combine an allowlisted iframe with unrelated sibling HTML or CSS, causing stored visual overlays or other styled content to appear in post content and enabling misleading or fraudulent user interfaces. Exploitation requires a posting account, control of the fetched webpage and oEmbed response, and an allowlisted iframe source. The issue affects content integrity but does not expose restricted data, disrupt availability, or require interaction with Discourse Content Security Policy. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.9.0, 2026.8.1, 2026.7.3, and 2026.1.9.
- CVE-2026-91156High
Discourse is an open-source discussion platform. Prior to 2026.9.0, 2026.8.1, 2026.7.3, and 2026.1.9, MessageBus audience calculation could deliver messages from a read-restricted category chat channel to an authenticated user who could view the category but was not allowed to use Chat under the site's group restrictions. The publication path bounded events by category visibility without also enforcing Chat eligibility, exposing live and recent message content available in the MessageBus backlog. The issue does not permit retrieval of the channel's full history through the Chat API and does not permit message creation or modification. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.9.0, 2026.8.1, 2026.7.3, and 2026.1.9.
- CVE-2026-23743High
In Discourse versions prior to 3.5.4, 2025.11.2, 2025.12.1, and 2026.1.0, permalinks pointing to access-restricted resources (private topics, categories, posts, or hidden tags) were redirecting users to URLs containing the resource slug, even when the user didn't have access to view the resource. This leaked potentially sensitive information (e.g., private topic titles) via the redirect Location header and the 404 page's search box.
- CVE-2025-68662High
Discourse, an open source discussion platform, contains a vulnerability in versions prior to 3.5.4, 2025.11.2, 2025.12.1, and 2026.1.0. The issue involves hostname validation in the FinalDestination component, which could allow bypassing SSRF protections under certain conditions.
- CVE-2025-68479High
Discourse is an open source discussion platform. In versions prior to 3.5.4, 2025.11.2, 2025.12.1, and 2026.1.0, some subscription endpoints lack proper checking for ownership before making changes. This issue is patched in versions 3.5.4, 2025.11.2, 2025.12.1, and 2026.1.0.
- CVE-2026-55674Critical
Prior to versions 2026.1.6, 2026.5.2, 2026.6.1, and 2026.7.0 in Discourse, an unauthenticated attacker could send a single request with a crafted color_scheme_id (or dark_scheme_id) cookie to inject arbitrary HTML into a Discourse page. Because the cookie value was rendered into a color scheme tag without escaping, the attacker could break out of the attribute and inject a tag that bypassed Discourse's nonce-based Content Security Policy, resulting in arbitrary JavaScript execution in visitors' browsers.
- CVE-2026-91121Medium
Discourse is an open-source discussion platform. Prior to 2026.1.8, 2026.6.3, 2026.7.2, and 2026.8.0, attacker-controlled upload filenames used in chat message excerpts were rendered as unescaped HTML. A user able to upload a file and send chat content could place markup in a filename that was then interpreted by chat channel lists, chat summary emails, pinned message bars, reply previews, thread previews, and other excerpt renderers. The issue allowed trusted-HTML injection that altered rendered excerpt content, but JavaScript execution was not demonstrated with default Content Security Policy settings. The advisory states that no confidentiality, integrity, or availability impact was identified, while its structured scoring metadata separately assigns low integrity impact. Sites that disable or relax the default CSP have increased exposure. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.1.8, 2026.6.3, 2026.7.2, and 2026.8.0.
- CVE-2026-91120Medium
Discourse is an open-source discussion platform. Prior to 2026.1.8, 2026.6.3, 2026.7.2, and 2026.8.0, provider-controlled video titles in lazy video embeds could be reparsed as HTML when Discourse generated notification emails or chat summaries. A user with standard posting privileges could create a post for an enabled YouTube, Vimeo, or TikTok provider whose title contained markup, and the email and chat-summary rendering path would place that markup into the output instead of treating it solely as text. Recipients using HTML-capable email clients could see injected content, potentially including event handlers, but the issue did not directly expose a Discourse browser session or affect the forum page itself. Lazy video embeds must be enabled, which is the default configuration. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.1.8, 2026.6.3, 2026.7.2, and 2026.8.0.
- CVE-2026-91119Medium
Discourse is an open-source discussion platform. Prior to 2026.1.8, 2026.6.3, 2026.7.2, and 2026.8.0, the topic small-action and nested-activity-log components interpolated the free-form action_code_who value into mention-link href attributes without URL encoding. A quote-bearing display name could terminate the intended URL attribute and inject attacker-controlled elements into the trusted rendered markup. Although the visible mention text was escaped, the unencoded path component allowed stored HTML injection when another user viewed the affected topic action or activity log. This issue is fixed in versions 2026.1.8, 2026.6.3, 2026.7.2, and 2026.8.0.
- CVE-2026-91134Medium
Discourse before certain versions allowed a stored cross-origin iframe to bypass the allowed_iframes prefix policy when the iframe src contained encoded userinfo. An authenticated user with posting privileges could persist the iframe in a post, causing attacker-controlled cross-origin content to be rendered.
