Summary

In the Linux kernel, a cached SCTP RECONF chunk may contain more than one request parameter. A duplicate response can process the same ADD_OUT request again, rolling back the outcnt counter twice and potentially underflowing it. The fix tracks outstanding request types as bits and ignores later responses.

Risk Assessment

An underflowed stream counter can lead to an inconsistent SCTP association state and potentially a crash or unpredictable networking stack behavior.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that tracks outstanding RECONF requests as bits. Restrict access to SCTP services from untrusted sources.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sctp: fix stream->outcnt underflow on duplicate RECONF responses A cached RECONF chunk may contain more than one request parameter. A duplicate response can therefore find and process the same ADD_OUT request again while another parameter is still outstanding, rolling back outcnt twice and possibly underflowing it. Track outstanding request types as bits and clear each bit after its first response. Later responses for the same request are then ignored.
