20th percentile - higher than 20% of all known CVEs

Summary

AesGcmCryptor.Open passed a caller-supplied nonce straight to cipher.AEAD.Open without checking its length. The Go standard library panics rather than returning an error when a GCM nonce is not exactly NonceSize() bytes, so a JWE carrying a wrong-sized IV crashes the decrypting goroutine.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can send a malicious JWE token with an invalid IV size, causing a panic and crash of the decrypting process. This may lead to denial of service.

Recommendation

Update the library to a patched version that validates nonce length before calling cipher.AEAD.Open. Ensure the application handles decryption errors without crashing.
