Summary

The Social Media Share Buttons & Social Sharing Icons plugin for WordPress up to version 3.0.1 is vulnerable to Reflected XSS via URL. Insufficient input sanitization and output escaping allow unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary scripts that execute when a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires the victim to be on a mobile user-agent and click the WeChat share icon, but script execution is automatic once the dialog opens.

Risk Assessment

The risk involves execution of malicious scripts in the victim's browser, potentially leading to session theft, account takeover, or content manipulation. The attack requires specific conditions (mobile, clicking the icon) but can affect mobile users.

Recommendation

Update the Social Media Share Buttons plugin to the latest patched version. Additionally, consider restricting the use of the WeChat icon if not essential.

Original NVD description (English source)

The Social Media Share Buttons & Social Sharing Icons plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Reflected Cross-Site Scripting via URL in all versions up to, and including, 3.0.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires the victim to be on a mobile user-agent and to click the WeChat share icon, though once the dialog opens, script execution is automatic and requires no further user interaction.
