Summary

Joomla Extension Modals Pro (regularlabs.com) versions < 17.0.0 contains a privileged stored XSS vulnerability via the event handler option. The extension supports JavaScript events such as on-open and on-closed but does not distinguish trusted configuration from event code supplied in article content. A lower-privileged author can use this feature to inject malicious code.

Risk Assessment

The vulnerability allows low-privileged authors to inject persistent malicious scripts that can be executed by other users, including administrators. This may lead to session theft or account takeover.

Recommendation

Update Modals Pro to version 17.0.0 or later. Until then, restrict content author privileges.
