Summary

Joomla Extensions Snippets Free (< 7.0.0) and Snippets Pro (< 11.0.0) from regularlabs.com contain a privileged stored XSS vulnerability via the url option. Snippets substitutes variable values supplied by an article tag into saved Snippet content without considering the article author's trust level. A lower-privileged author can place an unsafe value into a security-sensitive position chosen by the trusted Snippet author.

Risk Assessment

The vulnerability allows a low-privileged author to inject persistent malicious scripts, potentially leading to code execution in other users' browsers. This may result in data theft or session takeover.

Recommendation

Update Snippets Free to version 7.0.0 or later and Snippets Pro to version 11.0.0 or later. Until then, restrict content author privileges.
