Summary

In the Linux kernel, in the drm/log driver, there is an infinite loop when the scale is too large for the display, causing rows or columns to become 0. The loop in drm_log_draw_kmsg_record() never decrements len when columns is 0. A check for zero rows/columns was added in drm_log_setup_modeset() to return an error and clean up the allocated buffer to avoid a leak.

Risk Assessment

The vulnerability could lead to a system hang (infinite loop) while processing DRM logs, potentially enabling a DoS attack. In extreme cases, it may also cause memory leaks.

Recommendation

Apply a Linux kernel update containing the fix that adds validation of rows/columns and returns an error instead of entering an infinite loop.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/log: Fix infinite loop when scale is too large for display When scale is large enough that scaled_font exceeds the display dimensions, rows or columns become 0. A columns value of 0 causes an infinite loop in drm_log_draw_kmsg_record() because the loop never decrements len. Check for zero rows/columns in drm_log_setup_modeset() and return an error, cleaning up the already allocated buffer to avoid a leak.
