Summary

A heap-based buffer overflow in the WS-Addressing Action transformation function in the Sofia IPC daemon in Xiongmai IP Camera XM530 firmware HMT.CM2005-v220608.1837 and earlier allows remote unauthenticated attackers to cause a denial of service or potentially execute arbitrary code via a crafted SOAP request containing a wsa5:Action string exceeding 128 bytes.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can remotely crash the camera or take control of it, potentially compromising privacy and security of the monitored area. IP cameras often play a critical surveillance role, so their compromise has serious consequences.

Recommendation

Update Xiongmai XM530 camera firmware to a version later than HMT.CM2005-v220608.1837 if the vendor provides a fix. Until patched, isolate cameras in a dedicated VLAN and restrict access to their interfaces.
