Summary

In Jetty's HttpClient, when a request is made through a forward proxy, the server may reply with a 407 (Proxy Authentication Required). The client mistakenly interprets the 407 as coming from the proxy and re-sends the request with the Proxy-Authentication header, which reaches the server and exposes the proxy credentials to it.

Risk Assessment

A malicious or compromised target server can obtain the proxy credentials used by the application, enabling further attacks with those credentials.

Recommendation

Upgrade Jetty to a version containing the fix for this issue and avoid sending requests through untrusted forward proxies.

Original NVD description (English source)

When Jetty's `HttpClient` make a request to a server through a forward proxy, the server may reply with a 407 (Proxy Authentication Required). The client mistakenly interprets the 407 as coming from the proxy, so it re-sends the request with the `Proxy-Authentication` header, which arrives to the server, that now has access to the proxy credentials.
