Summary

Vulnerability in the local web service of Newell Brands DYMO Connect Desktop. The LoadImageAsPngBase64 endpoint accepts a file path parameter without adequate validation, allowing a crafted path to read arbitrary image files from the host filesystem outside the intended scope. Fixed in 1.6.2; the fix limits access by file extension only, not by directory – arbitrary-location reads of files with an allowed image extension remain possible by design.

Risk Assessment

Risk of disclosure of sensitive image files (e.g., screenshots, scans) from the filesystem, potentially compromising data confidentiality.

Recommendation

Update DYMO Connect Desktop to version 1.6.2 or later and consider additional safeguards such as restricting access to the local service.
