13th percentile - higher than 13% of all known CVEs

Summary

In Splunk SOAR versions below 8.7.0, a user with the "Observer" role could use REST API query filters to infer password hashes and authorization tokens for other users. The disclosure occurs because query filters are applied to user records before sensitive fields are protected.

Risk Assessment

A low-privileged user can obtain other users' password hashes and tokens, potentially leading to account takeover and privilege escalation within the SOAR environment.

Recommendation

Update Splunk SOAR to version 8.7.0 or later and consider rotating user tokens and passwords.

In Splunk SOAR versions below 8.7.0, a user that has the "Observer" role could use query filters in the Representational State Transfer (REST) API to infer password hashes and authorization tokens for other users. The information disclosure is possible because Splunk SOAR applies REST API query filters to user records before it protects sensitive fields from query processing.
