Summary

The WP Inventory Manager plugin for WordPress in all versions up to and including 2.5.5 is vulnerable to time-based SQL injection via the 'sort_order' shortcode attribute due to insufficient escaping of the user-supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation of the existing SQL query. An authenticated attacker with Contributor-level access can append additional SQL queries to extract sensitive information from the database, exploiting the [wpinventory_categories] shortcode in a draft post rendered through preview.

Risk Assessment

An attacker with a Contributor account can exfiltrate data from the WordPress database, including user data and business information. This can lead to confidentiality breaches and further privilege escalation.

Recommendation

Update the WP Inventory Manager plugin to a version later than 2.5.5 or disable it, then review Contributor accounts and check the database for unauthorized access.

Original NVD description (English source)

The WP Inventory Manager plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to time-based SQL Injection via 'sort_order' Shortcode Attribute in all versions up to, and including, 2.5.5 due to insufficient escaping on the user supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database. This can be exploited by a Contributor via the [wpinventory_categories] shortcode embedded in a draft post rendered through preview, without requiring the post to be published.
