Summary

Missing authentication for a critical function in certain ASUS routers allows an unauthorized nearby user to send specific commands via HTTP requests. The router returns device identification information and switches into a specific mode, which may prevent self-recovery under abnormal conditions.

Risk Assessment

An attacker within wireless range can disclose device information and push the router into a state that hinders self-recovery. This may result in prolonged router unavailability and network disruption.

Recommendation

Update the ASUS router firmware according to the 'Security Update for ASUS Router Firmware' section of the ASUS Security Advisory. Limit exposure of the management interface on wireless and remote networks.
