CVE-2026-74700
HighCVSS 7.8Exploitation Probability (EPSS)
Low risk2th percentile - higher than 2% of all known CVEs
Summary
A vulnerability was found in the Linux kernel's network filter mechanism (net/sched). The issue is a race condition during filter creation that can lead to use-after-free (UAF) in the cls_u32 class. The fix ensures rtnl_lock is always acquired when destroying locked classifiers.
Risk Assessment
A local attacker could exploit the race to trigger memory corruption, potentially causing a system crash or privilege escalation. The vulnerability affects the default kernel networking stack.
Recommendation
Apply the official Linux kernel patch addressing CVE-2026-74700 immediately. Reboot the system after the update to load the changes.
Other vulnerabilities in Linux kernel
See all- CVE-2026-80577Unknown
In the Linux kernel's drm/panthor driver, panthor_fw_load_section_entry() skips BO creation for zero-sized firmware sections but adds them to the section list, leading to NULL pointer dereference in later paths. The fix skips adding such sections to the list.
- CVE-2026-80571Unknown
In the Linux kernel powerpc/pseries papr-phy-attest, missing validation of cmd.length could lead to buffer overflow. The fix adds length checks and fixes memory leaks on error paths.
- CVE-2026-80567Unknown
In the Linux kernel Synaptics RMI4 driver (F54), worker errors were not propagated to the V4L2 queue, causing stale or uninitialized data to be delivered to userspace. The fix adds error checking and marks buffers as error state.
- CVE-2026-80566Unknown
In the Linux kernel, the hynitron_cstxxx driver improperly validated touch count and finger IDs. This can lead to corrupted touch state or out-of-bounds buffer access.
- CVE-2026-80564Unknown
In the Linux kernel, the gve driver lacks an implementation of adjfine, leading to a NULL pointer dereference when triggered from userspace, e.g., via testptp.
- CVE-2026-80563Unknown
A use-after-free vulnerability was found in the Linux kernel's gpio-sloppy-logic-analyzer driver. The 'trigger' debugfs file lacked proper protection, allowing a write to freed memory during device unbind. The issue was fixed by using debugfs_create_file() instead of debugfs_create_file_unsafe().
- CVE-2026-80543Unknown
In the Linux kernel, the xcrb_msg_to_type6cprb_msgx() and xcrb_msg_to_type6_ep11cprb_msgx() functions for s390/zcrypt copy a user space message into a kernel buffer based on length, but further processing assumes 4-byte alignment. As a result, up to 3 bytes of uninitialized kernel memory are forwarded to further processing, potentially exposing kernel memory to the crypto card firmware.
- CVE-2026-80542Unknown
In the Linux kernel, the amdgpu driver for AMD Display has a NULL pointer dereference in amdgpu_dm_crtc_set_vblank() when vblank is enabled or queried before a stream is attached to acrtc_state->stream. This can lead to a system crash.
- CVE-2026-80535Unknown
In the Linux kernel XFS filesystem, during directory tree repair, a self-referential directory may be detected. In such a case, the repair code attempts to lock the same inode twice (double iolock/ilock), leading to a deadlock. The fix detects this corner case and handles it appropriately.
- CVE-2026-80533Unknown
In the Linux kernel XFS filesystem, during AGI repair, the function xrep_iunlink_walk_ondisk_bucket may attempt to use the pointer sc->sa.agi_bp, which can be null if the buffer verifier fails. The fix uses ragi->agi_bp instead, which skips verifier checks, to avoid walking off the end of memory.
Original NVD description (English source)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/sched: cls_api: Always acquire rtnl_lock when destroying locked classifiers Another challenge with unlocked filters. There is a short window in tc_new_tfilter where a tcf_proto can be found and briefly referenced by a totally unrelated, unlocked classifier's request and cause a race. Feng created a poc which created this race with two threads, one creating a u32 filter and other a flower filter in the same chain/prio: 1. Both threads enter tc_new_tfilter, both find the chain empty, both drop filter_chain_lock 2. u32 finishes tcf_proto_create("u32") first, calls tcf_chain_tp_insert_unique() -> inserts u32_tp into the chain 3. flower finishes tcf_proto_create("flower") later, calls tcf_chain_tp_insert_unique() -> tcf_chain_tp_find() now sees u32_tp already there, takes a reference on it, destroys flower's own tp_new and returns u32_tp to the caller. Flower then hits the kind mismatch check (because it requested for kind "flower" but tp->ops->kind is "u32") and goes through the errout path which calls tcf_proto_put() on u32_tp. If the u32 thread has already gone through its own errout (its change() call failed on the PoC's empty options) and dropped its create and insert refs, flower's put is the last one and drops u32_tp's refcnt to zero. At this point tp->ops->destroy() runs in a context that never took rtnl_lock. When that happens, it might cause a UAF like the following (illustrated by the PoC): [ +0.000710] BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in u32_init (net/sched/cls_u32.c:393) [ +0.000281] Read of size 8 at addr ffff888120022f00 by task poc_feng_xue/524 Call Trace: u32_init (net/sched/cls_u32.c:393) tc_new_tfilter (net/sched/cls_api.c:2378) Allocated by task 526: u32_init (net/sched/cls_u32.c:378) tc_new_tfilter (net/sched/cls_api.c:2378) Freed by task 522: kfree u32_destroy (net/sched/cls_u32.c:662) tcf_proto_destroy (net/sched/cls_api.c:446) tcf_proto_put (net/sched/cls_api.c:459) tc_new_tfilter (net/sched/cls_api.c:2459) Fix this by having tcf_proto_destroy() take rtnl_lock around tp->ops->destroy() for locked classifiers whenever rtnl is not held. To explain why I used a temp variable "not_lockless" I'd like to point to a semi-related note on rtnl_held vs TCF_PROTO_OPS_DOIT_UNLOCKED (adding here for future cleanup if deemed necessary): The rtnl_held parameter and the TCF_PROTO_OPS_DOIT_UNLOCKED flag are redundant sources of truth for whether rtnl_lock is held. Among the nine classifier destroy(..rtnl_held..) callbacks, only flower consults the rtnl_held parameter which it propagates to tc_setup_cb_destroy() and tc_setup_cb_call(). The other eight (u32, flow, bpf, cgroup, route, basic, fw, mall) ignore it entirely;-> those that call tc_setup_cb_destroy() (u32, bpf, mall) hardcode true always instead of forwarding the parameter. A future cleanup should remove the rtnl_held parameter from the destroy callback signature entirely and have callers rely solely on their knowledge whether they are running in an unlocked context.
