Summary

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's vsock/virtio driver allows the RX worker to refill the queue after teardown, leading to a use-after-free and kernel panic. The issue occurs when work is queued after virtio_vsock_vqs_del() has been called.

Risk Assessment

An attacker could exploit this to cause a kernel panic (DoS) or potentially escalate privileges if the use-after-free is successfully leveraged. However, this requires local access or specific virtualization environment conditions.

Recommendation

Immediately update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix (commit resolving the issue). Also monitor distribution security advisories and apply relevant patches.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vsock/virtio: avoid refilling the RX queue after teardown Commit b917507e5ad9 ("vsock/virtio: stop workers during the .remove()") made the RX worker jump to its common exit when rx_run is clear. That exit still refills the RX queue when the buffer count is low, so work queued across virtio_vsock_vqs_del() can add buffers after the virtqueues have been deleted.
