CVE-2026-73130

MediumCVSS 4.3
Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

Gitea does not limit the length of the gitignores field accepted by repository-creation forms and the API. Repository initialization splits the field into template names, repeatedly reads the referenced templates, and buffers their contents in memory. An attacker who can create repositories can submit an oversized value to amplify template reads and memory use, impairing availability.

Risk Assessment

An attacker with repository-creation permission can cause excessive memory consumption and degrade the availability of the Gitea service. This may lead to slowdowns or unavailability of the instance for other users.

Recommendation

Update Gitea to a version containing the fix that limits the length of the gitignores field. Until then, consider restricting which users can create repositories and monitor memory usage.
