Summary

A weakness was identified in Cesanta Mongoose up to 7.20 in the handle_opt function of /src/net_builtin.c (TCP Option Handler). Manipulating the optlen argument causes an infinite loop that can be triggered remotely. The exploit is publicly available and the issue is fixed in version 7.21.

Risk Assessment

A remote attacker can cause a denial of service by hanging a network service built on Mongoose. Public exploit availability increases the likelihood of abuse.

Recommendation

Upgrade Cesanta Mongoose to version 7.21 or later. Until then, consider restricting network access to services using this library.
