Summary

In PHPCSUtils from 1.0.0-alpha1 until 1.2.3, AbstractArrayDeclarationSniff::getActualArrayKey() evaluates attacker-controlled array-key expressions with eval(). This allows callback-form keys in untrusted PHP code scanned by an extending sniff to execute arbitrary commands on the scanning host.

Risk Assessment

If the organization scans untrusted PHP code using extending sniffs (e.g., Universal.Arrays.DuplicateArrayKey), an attacker can execute arbitrary commands on the scanning machine. This leads to full host compromise.

Recommendation

Update PHPCSUtils to version 1.2.3 or later. Avoid scanning untrusted PHP code until the fix is deployed.
