Summary

In the Linux kernel, the amdgpu driver for VCN v5.0.0 did not set the no_user_fence flag for encoder rings. This caused CS submissions with user fences to be accepted even though the hardware does not support 64-bit user fence writes.

Risk Assessment

The organization may experience system instability or errors in VCN encoder/decoder operation, potentially leading to crashes of multimedia applications or unpredictable graphics driver behavior.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing commit 49b1fbbb5a07 or later, which disables user fence support for VCN v5.0.0 encoder rings.
