CVE-2026-59188

MediumCVSS 5.4
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

Part-DB prior to version 2.12.3 sanitizes SVG files based solely on the user-controlled filename extension rather than the actual file content type. An authenticated attacker can upload a malicious SVG with a JavaScript payload using a non-SVG extension (e.g., .jpg), bypassing sanitization entirely. When any user views the attachment inline, the browser receives Content-Type: image/svg+xml and executes the embedded script in the Part-DB origin.

Risk Assessment

Arbitrary JavaScript execution in the Part-DB origin is possible, potentially leading to user session hijacking or unauthorized actions. However, it requires an authenticated upload and user interaction.

Recommendation

Update Part-DB to version 2.12.3 or later. Additionally, consider restricting SVG uploads or enforcing correct Content-Type at the server level.
